Homophobia refers to various negative attitudes and improper treatment meted out to homosexual individuals that may be expressed at individual, cultural, and institutional levels. While homophobia can generally be applied to those considered lesbian or gay, the term is also used to refer to bisexuals, transgenders, and transsexual individuals.
