The number of COVID-19 cases has been increasing rapidly. Delhi has continued to witness a steady rise in the number of cases and the cases reported daily in the past week has been over 100. While the exact reason for the rise in the number of cases in Delhi is not known. Many have blamed the doing away with the mask mandate as the primary reason for the spike.

According to doctors, a significant portion of people contracting the Covid-19 virus these days are reinfections of those who had tested positive for Covid either during the Delta wave or Omicron wave. Even as some of the States and Union Territories are witnessing a significant rise in the number of COVID19 cases, former Chief Scientist of the Indian Council of Medical Research, Dr R Gangakhedkar believes that the surge in infection will not lead to the fourth wave by any chance.

Expert Opinion On Covid Varient

Dr. Gangakhedkar said that India has sub-lineages of the Omicron variant but no new variant has been reported so far and the chances of the fourth wave can`t be seen as of now. “I don’t think this is the fourth wave by any chance. One thing we have to understand is that the entire world continues to have BA. 2 variants, which is infecting people every day,” he said. He further elaborated that due to the opening of schools and colleges, people have become socially active resultantly the surge in cases is being witnessed.

“The second problem is that we allowed schools to open and now college students are moving. As a result, they go out and get infected, and these infected clusters are mostly social. It can be significant for the media, “said Dr Gangakhedkar. He added: Reasons for the increase in cases; also is, some people may have misunderstood the requirements for the withdrawn mask. But since there is no risk of infection, some people may move freely and wear mask stops. Maybe. Because you are using it, you will also be infected if you come into contact with someone who is currently infected.

“Therefore, basically, unblocking is more likely to cause such a reaction, and the increase may be one less”. He warns against removing the mask. He added that the Omicron infection lasted 6-9 months and that the recombinant mutant was a fluke that did not lead to the fourth wave.
