Who is Nupur Sharma?
Nupur Sharma was born on 23rdApril, 1985 in New Delhi. She got her higher education from Delhi Public School(DPS), Mathura Road, New Delhi. At an early age she got influenced by politics. She pursued Economics (hons) from Hindu College of Delhi University. As a student there, she became actively involved in Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), which is a student’s organization affiliated to RSS. While studying, Nupur got elected as the president of Delhi University Students Union on the ticket of (ABVP). She also got her master’s degree in law from London School of Economics.
Nupur Sharma has also been a Youth Ambassador of Teach For India, which is affiliated with Teach for America. In 2015, she was awarded with ticket to stand in elections against Arvind Kejriwal which brought her to the limelight. Although she could not win the elections held against Arvind Kejriwal. Her incredible knowledge on legal issues and bilingual skills won the hearts of lakhs of people. Her political career got its kick start from there. In 2020, she was appointed as Bharatiya Janata Party’s National spokesperson. Her popularity grew when she was seen on television, performing debates with her firm attitude and brilliant advocacy with members of other parties.
Controversy on Nupur Sharma’s comments on prophet Mohammed
Nupur Sharma, National Spokesperson of BJP got suspended from the party after she made some harsh comments on Prophet Mohammed on a news channel during a debate. After those remarks, made by Nupur Sharma, all the Muslim groups from many countries got enraged.
A communication from the party’s disciplinary said that she has expressed views contrary to the party’s position on various matters. Which is a clear violation of the constitution and also not good for the party.
“Pending further inquiry, you are suspended from the party and from your responsibilities, assignments if any, with immediate effect” it said.
In a statement, the BJP said, “it was against any ideology which insults or demeans any sect or religion” as well as that it did not “promote such people or philosophy”.
Many police cases have been filed against her derogatory remarks in Maharashtra. Protests erupted across several parts of the nation on Friday against the prophet row. The agitators demanding action to be taken against the BJP Spokesperson, Nupur Sharma and her former party colleague Naveen Jindal.
Nupur Sharma tweets on social media apologizing for her harsh comments made on National Television by saying that she got provoked after she heard the comments made on Hindu Lord Shiva and that’s why she said those comments.
