Madhya Pradesh ‘Gau Cabinet’ decided to treat Cows as “Holy Mother”
At the first Madhya Pradesh Cabinet meeting on cows or ‘gau’ through video conference, decided to brand the cow as “Holy Mother”. In order to solve problems confronting women, farmers, children and environment.
The meeting was attended by Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh – Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Home Minister – Narottam Mishra, Agriculture Minister – Kamal Patel, Rural Development Minister – Mahendra Singh Sisodia, Animal Husbandry Minister – Prem Singh Patel and Forest Minister – Vijay Shah. They decided to create awareness among the people about the uses of the cow and it’s by-product through an awareness campaign to educate people.
Cabinet Decision :-
- COW MILK – Usage of eggs in anganwadis can be replaced from cow milk improving the health of malnourished children.
- COW DUNG – Using cow dung cakes to fuel stoves and to replace wood and chemical fertilizers in order to save the environment.
- COW URINE – Using the urine of cows as a pest control treatment and medicines.
- COW SHELTERS – Building 4,000 cow shelters which will be run by self help groups, thus generating income. It was also put forward to charge cow cess to fund the plans.
To protect the environment, conservation of cows is necessary as the cow as well as it’s by-products have many beneficial properties. The focus of the government is to make women’s self reliant through opening of cow shelters.
The Chief Minister also announced that the government would develop a cow sanctuary in Agar Malwa district as a cow research institute. Also, in order to protect cow slaughtering ( also it’s the duty of the state to prohibit Cow Slaughtering as per Article – 48 under Directive Principles of State Policy in Constitution of India) government steps to improve and preserve them.
However, branding the cow as a holy figure is not a new propaganda of BJP led State Government. Improvement in the condition of cows is still not guaranteed.
