Solo Travelers : I Have Some Advice For You – Solo Trip

AUTHOR : BHARAT THAPA

Are you ready to go on a solo trip? Is it your first solo trip? Have you ever considered going on a solo trip? If not then you must. A person without travel would never be able to understand different people in different communities, he would never be able to find himself. Solo travel is the best way in which you can get the taste of different cultures. Also solo travelling is all about finding yourself (Ēkaṭyānē pravāsa karaṇē mhaṇajē svata: Lā śōdhaṇē hōya). If you are good to go let’s see what advice I have for you on solo travelling:

Advice 1: Have a light backpack

I know you all must be thinking we know that, but our bag itself becomes heavy every time we pack it for travelling. But you need to understand that you are going on a solo trip to have fun, to explore yourself, to explore the world, to have peace of mind, or to get rid of boredom. Will you get all these with a heavy bag? I don’t think so. Light bag will never bother you, but a heavy bag will definitely become a burden for you and you will be like Oh! I have to carry this bag today also. It would be fatigue and tiresome. Maybe you will get depressed just because of that heavy bag. So try to keep your backpack light.

Advice 2: Never carry expensive items.

Never wear or carry expensive things while you are travelling solo. Because consider this, if you travel alone with an expensive item it would be easy for anyone to snatch and steal away that item. If that valuable item has been stolen by someone else, what could you do? You are a stranger there so maybe if you go to the police station to report something they may not write your complaint. No one would be there to help you. You also can’t trust anyone in that unknown place. Maybe just because you are carrying expensive things they may become your friend and talk with you sweetly, suddenly they may steal your expensive item or could threaten you to give them your expensive item. Anything could happen who knows. So beware of carrying expensive items while you are travelling solo.

Advice 3: Do some research before travelling

You should do some sort of research before travelling. I am not telling you to become a researcher, just try to do some basic research. You could also consider doing some advanced research. It’s your choice. As per my knowledge you should know the culture of that country or region you are travelling in. Maybe the culture of that country or region you are traveling in doesn’t allow anyone to wear some specific type of clothes or their culture could be flexible towards the clothes system. You should know what the cab and taxis taxes are. Because you don’t want yourself to get looted out there. Also consider accommodation places you are going to stay. Your hotel should be hygienic and should have good quality. You must have all the right documents to travel in that region or country and on and on and on you can go beyond this. I have given some basic checks you should do before moving.

Advice 4: Make an itinerary list

We all make a plan for our life, so why not plan our solo trip? But before that have you made some plans for your life? If you said no, then make your life’s plan right away. So coming back to our discussion you should consider making an itinerary list wherein you will write what places you will visit and when. Also you should plan where you will stay, for how long. Also for your own safety purposes why not share your itinerary list with your families and friends. So that if you got lost, I am not saying you will, but it may happen. If you got lost they would be able to track you through your itinerary list.

Advice 5: Roam in public places

I don’t think it would be strange if I’d advise you to hang around public places, not in some strange looking places. It’s obvious that some thief or some kidnapper or anyone thinking that you are a solo traveler, may try to take advantage of it. But in public places you may ask for help, you may scream and someone will definitely help you out. So try considering public places. Beware of strange places. I know there must be strange places out there which may fascinate you, but try to come next time along with your friends and explore such places.

Advice 6: Eat right stuff

The last thing you don’t want on your solo trip is an unhappy stomach. So beware of what you are eating. Try to look around the restaurant where you are eating whether it’s hygienic or not? Are the foods fresh or rotten? Also try to avoid overeating because we try to eat more whose taste we like, but remember you are on a solo trip. No one is out there to help you. So beware of what you are eating and how much.

Advice 7: Don’t exceed budget limit

You are on a solo trip and you can’t run out of cash because no one is there to help you. Unknown place with unknown people out there, whom to trust? So try to limit your spending. You must be spending on shopping, exploring places, giving taxes to cab or taxi, accommodation charges,  cost of food and what not. But have a budget plan, so that you never run out of cash. If however you run out of cash try contacting your families and friends because they are the only ones whom you can trust. So limit your spending and have a budget plan.

I hope all the advice will help you in planning your next solo trip and have a safe and happy solo trip next time.
