AUTHOR : BHARAT THAPA

Delhi, heart throb of India where it is said that Delhiites tend to have a big heart. Dilwalo ka sheher hai Delhi. And this capital loves to welcome any entrants in this city. It’s also the city of crowds and massive traffic. And have you seen the Delhi 6 movie? It’s the right description of Delhi. Delhi is an incredible city with a lot of things to do. Also, we have our country’s parliament here and falana dhimkana. Oh, the last word I used that’s falana dhimkana in Delhi. So are you ready to explore such a heart throbbing city of India. Let’s explore together within a day. Yeah that’s right, let’s explore it within a day.

1. India Gate

So, first in the list is India Gate obliviously. It is a war memorial located astride the Rajpath, on the eastern edge of the “ceremonial axis” of New Delhi. It honours Indian soldiers who gave their life for their country. It is the hosting place for independence and republic day celebration. You can go there with your families and friends and sit on the lawn and it will be like a picnic for you and your family members. You could play cricket and football there. Why not play badminton there? There is also a children’s park and if you have kids then what is better than taking your kids to that park. If you’re going there in the morning, then what a beautiful sunrise you could see. What better than seeing a sun rising behind the India gate and slowly slowly going up. The good thing is that it’s free to visit there and it is open from morning till evening, every day.

2. Red Fort

Second up in the list is red fort. It was constructed in 1639 by the fifth Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. It is one of the most prominent attractions of Delhi. It is also called Lal Quilla. At the entrance you could easily find sellers selling antique pieces. There is a huge garden inside. Greenery will mesmerize your eyes. You can immerse yourself in the history by seeing such a beautiful architectural structure of the past. And if you have a lot of days to spend in Delhi then I must say do spend the whole day here because it’s so vast that it’s impossible to cover all the areas within an hour or two. Also, if you have time then go and see a light and sound show here which happens in the evening. It opens from 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM, Except on Mondays. Red Fort ticket price for Indians is Rs 35 and for foreigners it is Rs 500.

3. National Rail Museum

Third one is the National Rail Museum. If you want to know how rails looked in the past, then this is your place to explore the world of rails. There are rails of each type that were in the past. It shows the rich heritage of rails in the world. These rails are not only static but also working. There is also an outdoor gallery where you could find steam, diesel, and electric locomotives, a fascinating collection of wagons, carriages, armoured trains, and rail cars. You can even enjoy a 3D virtual ride there. Also you could try riding a toy train. There are also restaurants, if you find yourself hungry then go and try out their offerings. It opens from Tuesday to Sunday- 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Entry ticket varies between adult and child on Weekdays – Rs.50/adult, Rs.10/child, on Weekends & Holidays – Rs.100/adult Rs.20/child.

4. Qutub Minar

Fourth place in the list is Qutub Minar. It is in the Qutub Complex, the Qutub Minar is the correct description of ancient India. It is about 240 meters tall and has five storeys with a staircase. But one sad thing is that you cannot go to the top of this Minar due to security issues. But don’t be sad, there’s a lot that you can see here. For example, verses of the Holy Quran are carved on the beautiful walls of this Minar. You could also find iron pillars which do not rust at all. As iron rusts extremely fast but can you think why it has not been rusted till now? There is also a lush green garden. Selfie to banti hai with these gardens in the backdrop. And you could easily see the perfect sunset from here even from the middle of this Minar. Do take time lapses here and post it to Instagram. Let the world know that you went to such a wonderful place in the world. You could also hire a guide here who will help you roam around this place perfectly. Entry fees are Rs. 30 per Indian and Rs.500 per foreigner. Timing is from 6:00 a.m. to 6 p.m.

5. Lotus temple

This could be our last stop. Lotus temple is one of those temples that accepts each religion with its open petals. Here you will find peace. This is the best place to hang out with yourself. You can easily meditate at one place where nobody would be there to disturb you. There is lavish greenery here. One must appreciate that all these monuments that we visited have immense greenery. You could also hire a guide here.

So that’s it for a one day tour of Delhi. We went around 5 places within such a short span of time so you could imagine if you come here to visit for more than a day then what other places you could see here. India is an incredible country and if India is, then how can you think that Delhi can’t. So, are you ready to explore Delhi? If yes, then go and explore Delhi. If not then always  remember the dialogue from ‘Kal Ho Na Ho’ movie Aaj … aaj ek hasi aur baant lo … aaj ek dua aur maang lo … aaj ek ansoon aur pee lo … aaj ek zindagi aur jee lo … aaj ek sapna aur dekh lo … aaj … kya pata, kal ho naa ho’.
