Nurture Mother Earth ~ Save soil, Save life

Don’t make our planet dry like a dessert, Make the soil fertile, let it live a long life,
Grow more and more trees, So that we can save the world from spreading disease

The campaign save soil is started by Sadhguru to aware people about the soil crisis that is increasing day by day. We all need to stand up for soil health so that it can be sustained for a longer period of time, and we all can maintain our health as well. If the soil health will remain good then gradually we will also remain healthy, as all the plants and vegetables are grown in the soil, so it is very important to keep the soil in good condition. If we will keep on adding fertilizers and pesticides then the soil will with time become infertile. So Sadhguru has started this mission globally. Sadhguru has initiated his lone 100 day motorcycle journey in which he will be covering 25 nations from United Kingdom to India which is approximately 35000 kilometers. Thousands of prominent people and Organizations like honourable prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and UN Messenger of peace, Dr. Jane Goodall have also raised their voice for this wonderful cause.
People usually think that how can we, as an individual can save soil? You can! And that too very easily! Every individual effort also counts. If we start saving soil or do any other good cause then many other people also gets influenced by us and they gradually become a part of the good cause. So we should never think that what difference will it make by a single individual. Start doing good for the nature, you will surely see it’s benefits one day. Now the question arises that how can we save the soil? Don’t worry, we have the answer.

How can we save soil?

With so many environmental issues going around like air pollution, water pollution, land pollution, global warming, ocean acidification, depletion of the ozone layer, people are looking into ways of keeping our planet sound. One such way to do this is soil conservation. Soil conservation is the prevention of soil loss from erosion or reduced fertility caused by over usage, acidification, salinization or other chemical soil contamination.
Let’s look at various ways to save our soil:

  1. Forest Protection
The natural forest cover in many areas have been decreased due to commercial activities. One of the purposes this cover provided was the protection of the soil. Business involved in building construction can conserve by ensuring these areas are protected.
  2. Buffer Strips
Soil erosion is a large problem that is being battled around the country. This is particularly an issue where there are natural bodies of water. Buffer Strips come in handy for conservation efforts. They provide protection where stream banks exists. They can be created with grass, trees and shrubs.
  3. No till farming
No till farming is an agricultural technique for growing crops or pasture without disturbing the soil through tillage. It helps to save fuel that the farmers generally use more than six gallons per acre each year. These savings adds up for individual farmers. Saving time and improving soil health lead to additional economic benefits.
  4. Less Concrete Surfaces
The soil requires adequate amount of water to function properly. Too many concrete surfaces, makes it difficult for the soil to take the water that is being given properly.
  5. Plant windbreak areas
Windbreaks are linear plantings of trees and shrubs designed to provide economic, environmental and community benefits. The primary purpose of most windbreaks is to slow the wind which creates a more beneficial condition for soils, crops, livestock, wildlife and people. Windbreaks, sometimes called shelterbelts, can also function in ways not related to wind reduction.
  6. Terrace Planting
People around the world have discovered clever ways to farm in tough conditions. Their land could be too dry, too wet, too hot, or prone to insects or damaging storms. If the land is too steep, people might try terrace farming. This type of farming is done by maximizing the topography of the land. It benefits from the way the rainwater flows naturally. This is a way to protect the soil from erosion.
  7. Plant trees to secure top soil
We should plant more and more trees as the trees helps to bind the soil. The tree act as a binding agent which helps to bind the nature. If there are more and more trees, it will help to prevent soil erosion, and will also create fresh air to breathe for us only.
  8. Crop Rotation
Crop Rotation is the practice of planting different crops sequentially on the same piece of land too improve soil health, optimize nutrients in the soil, and combat pest and weed pressure.
This practice also works to interrupt pest and disease cycles, improve soil health by increasing biomass from different crops root structures and increase biodiversity on the farm.
  9. Water the soil
This is a simple process that provides a lot of benefits to the soil. Watering your soil along with plants and vegetables is important. This helps to not only nourish the soil but to protect it. Moist soil is not in danger of erosion due to wind activity.
  10. Maintain pH
The pH levels in the soil can be affected by a number of things. Pollutants and acids are just two examples in this category. They can affect soils health and also the vegetable grown in the soil, which is eventually going to be eaten by us.

So we need to understand that along with Sadhguru ji, we also need to join hands and unite together to protect the soil. This will be beneficial for us only as we will get to eat pure fruits and vegetables and we will remain healthy. Pure soil also helps in oxidation of air.

In order to maintain good health:

As we all know that health is wealth, so firstly we should take care of our health and we will be the richest person on the earth.

So, Breathe healthy, Eat healthy, Then only you can be wealthy!
