Introduction

Earth is the only planet on which we can survive but we are polluting it as well. So, Where will our next generations go? How will they survive? Humans are selfish creatures. We just think about our present and not about the future. For example- We burst crackers on Diwali and many people think that bursting crackers on just one day will not pollute the environment. But there are 1.2 billion Hindus in the world! So imagine the extent of pollution caused on that one day.

Types of pollution:

  • Land pollution – it is caused by dumping waste into land.
  • Water pollution – it is caused by releasing waste into water and is adversely affecting water bodies and animals.
  • Air pollution – it is caused by releasing harmful gases into air.
  • Noise pollution – it is type of pollution affecting the whole environment and all living organisms

Problems Caused Due To Pollution

Pollution is causing a lot of problems especially to children and old aged people because of their weak immunity. It causes health issues such as heart problems, liver problems, breathing problems etc.

Pollution is causing a decrease in Ozone layer which adversely affects both environment and living organisms because if Ozone Layer decreases the UV Rays (ultraviolet rays) will reach Earth and it may lead to problems such as skin cancer, cuts etc. At times, because of different kinds of pollution many new born babies also lose their lives. In Delhi schools are often closed due to smog which is caused by pollution.

some other problems caused by pollution include-

  • Reduced Agricultural Produce
  • Dirty groundwater
  • Death of Aquatic life
  • Polluted water reaching our homes
  • Less oxygen
  • Breathing harmful gases
  • Hearing problems
  • Headaches
  • and sometimes even mental disorders

Conclusion

Pollution is very harmful for living organisms; it is affecting children as well as old aged people. The government is launching many schemes and making various laws to overcome this problem. Because of this pollution some schools are cancelling student’s fun activities such as picnics, sports day, etc. Some slogans related to pollution used by children are “Don’t be drastic, do not use plastic”, “wipe out pollution before it wipes you”, “Go green, breath green” etc. Now let’s take initiative on our own to reduce pollution.

There are certain precaution that we can take in our day to day life to help reduce pollution such as –

  1. Using cycles for short distances.
  2. Switch off lights when not in use.
  3. Follow 3Rs Reduce Recycle Reuse.
  4. Use jute bags instead of plastic bags.
  5. Use natural energy such as solar energy, wind energy, hydro energy.

We all should focus on making our environment good, healthy and pollution free and make it possible for our next generations to survive on this planet.
