Introduction to Motivation

Motivation is a term we all come across. But what exactly is this? And why is this so important?

Motivation is a Latin word, derived from ‘Movere’ which means to achieve, to move, or to drive and step forward. Motivation represents a motive towards something. They stimulate you, inspire you, and induce your inner self to perform to the best of your capability and attain success. This means to have something, be stubborn to obtain something, and have a need or want in life. It is an action that motivates someone to achieve something they constantly desired. In today’s generation, the main motive of anyone around is probably a desire for money and power.

What is the motive behind the actions you do? Did you ever have had thought about it? If not think right now because having a motive is truly important.

Let us have a look at how motivation is a process.

This process begins when an individual has a need that is been in his head for years and is unsatisfied. It is a desire to have something they were wanting for a long time now. This need in a person creates tension and eagerness that drives him crazy to attain those goals and reach a destination he always dreamt of.

Unsatisfied feeling    ————–>        creates tension  ————>    you act on it      ————->       you achieve your goal    ————–>     reduction in worry

  • Your unsatisfied urge to achieve something lets you have a desire for it and creates tension in you. This is usually created by your internal stimuli and reactions that let you have different thoughts that you add to your wish list. The tension created can be in any form, physical, social, or mental ways. And people tend to behave in different ways and develop objects or other things to satisfy their needs.
  • This makes you act on attaining it and perceiving your dreams. Hence, you achieve it, reduce tension, and become carefree. This is a call for taking ‘action’. An individual assesses himself in certain activities that act as a motivation or a motive toward his goal.
  • A goal that is to be achieved undergoes several short steps of success and failure. And along the way, certain actions lead to rewards or punishments based on the act of an individual. Hence you lessen your worries and let you provide feedback that improves or revises the needs and desires of people around you.

For example, if an employee working for a company needs to earn more, he deliberately tries to improve himself in whatever field he is working in, he works hard and initiates himself in every other way possible. He will strive and think hard to satisfy his goal. He might want to get a promotion or an increase in the level of his job. And after some time, he will get the increment he deserves. And that is exactly a success to his hard work.

Types of Achievement

There are several types of achievement such as affiliation, achievement, power, competence, attitude, incentive, and fear.

  • Affiliation motivation: This drives an individual to a social picture. They tend to work better and smart. They carry a very positive attitude as individuals and cooperate.
  • Achievement motivation: This makes an individual crazy to attain his goals. An individual with such a type of motivation advances himself up on the ladder toward success and it is the only goal he looks out for.
  • Power motivation: This makes a person drive on changing a situation to something better and works for it. Thus, they influence people and objects around them. They tend to create an impact wherever and whatever they do. They take risks and focus on the positive side of a situation.

This allows an individual to focus on high-quality and weighted work. They tend to work hard on solving situations and problems around them, their skills let them be creative when they are exposed to certain obstacles.
  • Attitude motivation: Attitude is how you carry yourself, how actions speak louder than your words. Depending on your personality, this can be ranked. This motivation leads to a person’s thoughts and how he feels. This is how they react and move on from their past and work better for their future.
  • Incentive motivation: The incentive is to have a give-and-take attitude. That is., you do this thing, to get this thing in life. The result makes you crazy about achieving something. The types of awards prizes and make an individual work harder.
  • Fear motivation: Fear lets an individual act against his dreams. He tends to become instant in his thoughts and gets the job done in faster and quicker ways.

Conclusion

Motivation is a physical, social, and psychological phenomenon. This is how your internal feeling cannot be forced but can be only focused on improving. This makes an individual behave in a particular way to attain whatever he wants. They must be positive and not negative. His mental feelings let him measure himself.

Your ability is your energy, it is your strength and only you have the right to it. One can perceive his strength only if he works on it. This depends on your environment in return the surrounding depends on your ability too. That is your surrounding influences your ability, and your ability influence your surroundings. This motivates you. But if any of these steps or factors becomes deficient along your way, an achievement or an effective result would be impossible or difficult to achieve.
