Is Domestic violence that hard to eliminate from society?
Domestic as it is clear from its words violence inside the house, silent violence, or no one knows about it.
Domestic violence has many forms physical abuses, emotional abuses, sexual abuses, economic abuses, and spiritual abuses.
* What’s your point of view when I say that this abusive behaviour is used by one partner over another to maintain power & control over others?
It is a myth that when you are asked or you ask someone about domestic violence the first thing to strike is violence against women. But the fact is men also suffer from this and when it becomes serious children get affected by this.
But the real problem with this is that it keeps increasing day by day and there are very few or say limited methods to combat it or eliminate it. This is to be taken seriously.
REASONS FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
- The first and the most important reason is keeping silent and tolerating it at the very beginning or first time. Otherwise, it will create a cycle of abuse, one should immediately raise a voice over this.
- Disconnection from social support systems as in sense many are not familiar with this. Also not many are familiar that there are various support systems available to stop this or help them to overcome this.
- People who use domestic violence have some types of problems such as increased stress levels, financial worries, job insecurity, and anxiety. These problems should be consulted otherwise these problems will have an impact on the family.
Impact of Pandemic on Domestic Violence
Domestic violence has existed for a very long time in society but during the last few years it has increased and the reasons are the same which I told you about above. The best way to prove an increase in domestic violence is during a pandemic. Look just wait for a second and think when partners live 11-12 hrs before lockdown then also the case of domestic violence is seen. And when it is locked down they have to spend 24 hrs together there is a great possibility of a fight between them.
This can be easily proved by some reports that during lockdown there were more complaints from houses as compared to situations before lockdown.
- According to the U.N report, 25cr women were victims of domestic violence. In India, every 3rd woman from the age group of 15-49 was a victim of this.
- A study by Daniel Schneider shows that unemployment among men led to abusive behaviour during the 2000s. Also said “as felt increasingly anxious and out of control over their jobs and financial security led to abuse over partner” and during the lockdown, these factors increase so cause more violence.
This will increase day by day if some steps are not taken against this.
SOLUTIONS TO THE PROBLEM
- Victims should report the violence and need not fear.
- If you see any person suffering from violence help him by calling NGOs, Police and helpline numbers.
- Couples should consult with doctors about the problems faced by abusers.
- There are various modes through which victims should report their problems as there are WhatsApp facilities. Helpline numbers are provided by many organisations. They are ready to help you but the steps are to be taken by you. First, it is you who should raise your voice for you.
- Try to be in connection with your friend /neighbour to tell them about this problem and ask for their help.
As it was said
“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”
