The 75th Cannes Film Festival is a very remarkable event for the film industry. Around the globe the actors, actresses, film makers, composers, music artists as well as the worldwide cinema showcase their skills. The film industry celebrates Cannes like a festival as we common people celebrate our traditional festivals. This film festival means a lot to all the film industry in the world.

India has all the capabilities to achieve anything because it is a country with many creative minds, hard working youth and diverse talent from all the regions of our country. Now we started setting our place in all the prestigious events in the world. We believe that recently we have become developed as well as even proven to be a strong nation with unity, technology and prosperity.

What is Cannes?

Cannes, a resort town on the French Riviera, France is famed for its international Film Festival.

  • This is the 75th annual Cannes Film festival in 2022.
  • This film festival is scheduled to take place from 17 May to 28 May, 2022.
  • The festival featured a tribute to actor Tom Cruise. Whose film Top Gun: Maverick is due to premiere at the festival. The actor won a surprise Palme dOr award.

This time Cannes is special for India as this is 75th Cannes Film Festival and India also completed its 75 years of independence. India has been selected as the first ‘country of honour’ at Marche du cinema.

Who attended Cannes from India?

Many Indian actors, actresses, film makers, composers etc. attended this film festival and to name a few: Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting and Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, Mr. Anurag Singh Thakur. The glamorous red carpet contingent included A.R. Rehman, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Prasoon Joshi, Mame Khan, Shekhar Kapoor, R. Madhavan, Deepika Padukone, Tammana Bhatia, Urvashi Rautela, Aishwarya Rai, Hina Khan, Kamal Hasan, Pooja Hegde and many more artists.

Deepika Padukone is the only Indian actress who is been selected as one among 8 other jury members from other countries. It is a very proud moment for us, for Indians that she represented our country, our culture and our values. As India is a land of stories. She also feels honoured to have such a great chance to represent our nation on such a great platform. Shekar Kapoor also says ‘If not India, where will Cannes go’. He also feels proud to be an Indian. Who belongs to such a nation where we see unity in diversity.

India’s journey has been beautifully captured and narrated through cinema. India’s red carpet presence captured the diversity of our cinematic excellence not only in the terms of representation of both actors and filmmakers through various languages and regions but also on the OTT platforms with a strong presence of music composers and folk artists who have enthralled our audiences whether it is young or old. The journey of India has been both beautifully captured and narrated through cinema. Indian cinema has played a crucial role and portrayed our fight for our independence, beat through turbulent times.

Entertainment Sector

Today the media and entertainment sector in India is a significant contributor not only to the creative economy but also to projecting India’s soft power abroad. In 2018, we had officially designated audio visual services as one of the “12th Champion service sectors”, as well as recently set up an AVGC task force composed of industry leaders to prepare a policy roadmap for India to take up a quantum leap in this sector and position as a preferred most production hub of this world. Anurag Thakur said that we have a strong intellectual and digital regime and we will do whatever we can to make India the world’s content hub.
