Ukraine Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshchuk said nine humanitarian corridors had been agreed for Saturday to evacuate civilians, from the capital city Kyiv and the besieged city of Mariupol. Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that a ban on Russian oil is the key to ending the ongoing crisis between Russia and Ukraine. More than 900 civilian bodies have been discovered in the region surrounding the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv following the withdrawal of Russian forces — most of them fatally shot.

The conflict began escalating on February 21, 2022, after Russian President Vladimir Putin in eastern Ukraine and deployed troops in a peacekeeping role. The elimination of the last Ukrainian troops trapped in the besieged port of Mariupol would put an end to talks with Moscow, President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday. “The Eli Ukrainian of our troops, of our men (in Mariupol), will put an end to any negotiations” between Ukraine and Russia, Zelensky said in an interview with the Ukrainska Pravda news website. “That will be an impasse as we don’t negotiate neither our territories nor our people”.

Russia’s Moves

Russian forces shelled an oil refinery in the Ukrainian city of Lysychansk on Saturday, and a large fire erupted, a regional governor reported. Luhansk regional governor Serhiy Haidai said it wasn’t the first time the refinery was targeted and accused the Russians of trying to exhaust local emergency services. He underlined there was no fuel at the refinery at the time of the attack and the remains of oil sludge were burning.

Russia’s foreign ministry said on Saturday that it had barred entry to the country for British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Foreign Secretary Liz Truss, Defence Secretary Ben Wallace and 10 other British government members and politicians. The move was taken “given the unprecedented hostile action by the British Government, in particular the imposition of sanctions against senior Russian officials,” the ministry said in a statement, adding that it would expand the list soon. Russia has also given the latest statement that they will occupy Ukraine by 9 May Fully.
