East Asian music is one of the oldest and most complex systems of music on the planet. There is a great variety of East Asian music, some are historically related and others are indigenous. Their three most common characteristics are Linearity, Transparency and word orientation.

Music and poetry reflect the culture and represent one’s country in their own way.

In Japan, as in Korea, the establishment and maintenance of such music has made it possible for modern listeners of famous pieces long forgotten in the country of their origin.

As we all know that Korean is the fastest growing foreign language in India right now. Its impact is huge on every generation.

During the Pandemic, people were forced to spend their time at home, which led to the sentiment of curiosity and urges for discovery in them.

K-Pop

But K-pop had been around in India for years. The first time most Indians came to know about K-pop was similar to when the rest of the world did. In 2012 when Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style’ became a viral hit. This is a trend that began mainly in the North-Eastern states, where teenagers have closer interactions with East Asian cultures, but now Hallyu, or Korean Wave in Chinese, has spread across India.

Because of the expansion of Korean and Japanese Music in India, Acceptance for studying Korean increased from 50 to175 between those periods, while for learning Japanese they increased by 71 percent.

Anime and Japanese hip hop songs are rapidly transmitted at high speed to youngsters. Western music is abrupt whereas Indian and Japanese music is based on melody and gradually moves one into ecstasy.

Not only Korea and Japan, music from Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam is also in high demand. By this time, we can agree on the fact that through music the expansion of globalisation is at its peak. As it is said, Music is a universal language.
