Naik, a Subedar in the Indian Army in Pune provided coaching to Neeraj in the middle of 2015 and 2017 at the Patiala national site. Naik reported to the Indian Army in the year 2000 after being encouraged by the Kargil war and emerged to become a 14-time ‘National Champion in Javelin Throw’. Later, due to an injury in his shoulders in 2011 Naik turned into a javelin throw coach.

Naik has stated that, “Neeraj has never transformed ever since 2015. His grounded and sublime nature still remains unbroken. Even now whenever and whatever suggestions I discuss with him, he listens to all with a positive notion”. Many Olympic medallists initiate to overlook their trainers. During our training days, throwing with a pitch of 80 metres was measured the maximum. Nowadays, junior cadet boys achieve that mark. The upcoming generation inspired by Neeraj will hereby contain more to decide and achieve greater pitches for events to come. They will gain assurance. So far, medals have been bagged for the country in boxing, badminton, and wrestling. Hereafter, people can look for medals in sports at the international events,” stated Naik.

Naik has also coached Manu (national winner), Samarajith Singh (Asian Tournament winner), Annu Rani (Asian Games and Asian Tournaments winner and Olympic participant in women’s javelin), Devendra Singh (Asian Tournament winner, World Tournament qualifier), and Shivpal Singh (Asian Tournament winner and World Tournaments participant). Neeraj had acquired gold medals at the Asian Games and Junior World Competitions after receiving training from Naik.

The Karnataka Government recognised the capability of Naik, and proclaimed Rs 10 lakh cash prize. Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai conceitedly specified that the state has also conferred on Neeraj’s accomplishment.

Naik specified that “On every occasion there is an accomplishment, all the recognition spirits to the sportsperson. Just like the sportsperson, the coaches also tussle and sweat along with them. The population necessitates identifying that element. The achievement by Neeraj will be prized by the ambitious youths. The motivation which is taken-up by the available talented group in rural parts will be vast”, he emphasises.
