What is the Nikita Tomar Murder Case | Brief

On 26th October ; A 21 year old college student, pursuing B.Com named Nikita Tomar was shot dead(murder) outside her college in Ballabgarh, Faridabad by the accused named Tauseef Ahmed and Rehan.

BACKGROUND

Tauseef was reportedly Nikita’s classmate in 12th standard, the victim’s family has alleged that the accused pursued the victim to convert her faith to Islam and marry him.

According to the victim’s family, Tauseef’s proposal was not accepted by Nikita and after she refused to comply with him, he killed her.

Islamuddin who is the maternal uncle of Tauseef, supposedly provided him with the pistols which he used to shoot the victim. Islamuddin already has a criminal record for which he is already in imprisonment for a term of 10 years for kidnapping a Police Inspector in 2018.

Investigation & Admissions

On October 29th both the accused i.e. Tauseef and Rehan were arrested by the Faridabad police in connection with the murder of Nikita Tomar murder case and were sent to judicial custody of 14 days by the Special Investigation Team.

The entire incident was recorded in the CCTV camera where it clearly depicts that he shot the girl at point blank range after failed attempts of abduction.

Allegedly during the course of investigation, Tauseef admitted to the fact that since he was unable to comprehend his next move after Nikita denied to comply with him, he decided that the girl will either stay with him or he will kill her.

Tauseef has claimed that he took revenge from the girl as in 2018 Nikita family filed a case against him in which he was arrested, whereby he was not able to study medicine, thus ruining his career

Other Angles

A Special Investigation Team, hereinafter referred to as the SIT has been formed so that the process takes place through fast track courts.

The SIT is even looking the probable angle of ‘love jihad’ in the case as the victim’s family claimed that the boy forced her to marry him and convert to Islam. However there is no evidence as such regarding the same.

Further, it has turned out that the main accused has certain political links as well which are supposedly playing a major role in the suppression of the matter.

The situation has turned into a communal debate from the case of stalking and murder. The protestors blocked the National Highway 2 demanding justice for the 21 year old in Ballabgarh, Faridabad. The police charged lathi over the protestors. 32 persons were arrested by the police of Faridabad on 1st of November for making such nuisance in the area.

However, the case is a classic example of the lethargic justice system of the country, where the evidence and admissions both lie before the system but no conviction seems in sight in the near future.

The case has also been in the limelight, allegedly as an instrument to reveal the biased nature of the agenda specific media in the country. Seeking to promote cases based on a certain political agenda and serving spotlight to selective offences.
